Replace or Repair Your R-22 System?
By Jose Cervantes, February 5, 2012
I just received a notification from my local AC distributors letting me know that the price for the refrigerant R-22 is going up effective immediately.
According to the Air Conditioning/Heating/Refrigeration News there is noticeable shortage in production and importation of this refrigerant.
R-22 refrigerant is the cooling medium on all older air conditioning and heating equipment models. The final production of these refrigerants will be until 2020 when all chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) refrigerants will be face out.
As you probably know CFC is a chemical that R-22 refrigerants contain. This ingredient can damage the ozone layer and the environment.
In an effort to control the CFC sales, which minimize harm to the environment the Federal Govenment has shot up the price of R-22 refrigerant through the roof.
How does the current high refrigerant prices and potential harm to the environment affect your R-22 system?
Any R-22 system can still be serviced. Mechanical and electrical component can be repaired or replaced.
If there are no refrigerant leaks on your ac system there is no negative impact on the environment. So there is no need to replace your cooling or heating system until you feel comfortable to invest on a new more efficient none R-22 system.
